Nintendo is making a live-action film based on its popular and loved video game, “The Legend of Zelda.” This statement was given by the Japanese company behind the Super Mario franchise.
Sony Pictures Entertainment and Nintendo are teaming up to make the film about “The Legend of Zelda.” Wes Ball, who is directing the new “Planet of the Apes” movie, will be in charge. Nintendo and Arad Productions Inc., known for the live-action Spider-Man films and led by Avi Arad, are working together to make the film.
The action demonstrates how Kyoto-based Nintendo plans to increase sales of its machines and software by utilizing a variety of business channels, such as theme parks, merchandising, and movies, and vice versa.
The plan worked! Nintendo’s cartoon movie, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” which came out this year, made over $1.3 billion and was watched by almost 170 million people all over the world.
President Shuntaro Furukawa, while talking to reporters online, mentioned that the company is happy about how well the Super Mario cartoon movie did. It’s the first movie Nintendo directly produced.
They didn’t say when the Zelda movie will come out yet. Shigeru Miyamoto, the Nintendo person in charge, mentioned it will be released when it’s good to go. He also said they have been working on it for around ten years.
Miyamoto said, “I realize there are so many Zelda fans, and we cannot betray their expectations. That is a big hurdle. But we are ready.”
On Tuesday, 7 Nov, Nintendo announced that its earnings for the first half of the fiscal year went up by 18%, reaching almost 271.3 billion yen (which is about $1.8 billion), compared to 230 billion yen the previous year.
Nintendo said that because the Super Mario movie did well, more people are buying their Switch consoles and games with Super Mario themes.
The new “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” game has been selling really well since it came out last month. They’ve sold a whopping 4.3 million copies in just two weeks, breaking records for how fast it’s flying off the shelves!
